Welcome to Introduction to Pastels!

Welcome artists!  For over twenty-five years now, I’ve worked with many different types of art media-- watercolor, pastel, oils, acrylics and more. Over that time, I’ve researched techniques, attended workshops and painted hundreds of artworks. I’ve been in juried shows and exhibitions and as I became comfortable with the media, I’ve also taught classes of my own.

Thank you for choosing me as your guide to learning the Pastel medium. Pastel is fabulous to work with and it is my "paint" medium of choice. For the next six weeks, we will:

  1. explore the basics of pastel
  2. learn how to prepare our own pastel surfaces
  3. study color theory and how to use it to make our pastel paintings vibrant and full of life
  4. use value to show depth and mood
  5. experiment with various mark making techniques to show texture
  6. discuss how to put all of these strategies together including-- using focal point and negative space to finish out your painting
  7. talk about how to store and frame a pastel painting

There will also be an option (not required by course) to join a closed Facebook discussion group!

Each week, a new Demo Video, Course Lesson and Reference Photo will arrive in your Curriculum page here. We'll take this journey slowly, step-by-step.

Doesn't that all sound exciting for six weeks? I can't wait to begin this journey with you!

See you on January 14th!*

And if you are interested in the closed/private Facebook group, please join us today! The group page can found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EaselShareCourseGroup

This group will be open only to class participants and will be a SAFE ZONE to show lesson artwork and to ask questions, discuss the lessons, etc without fear of showing to the public or from negative opinions.

*There will be a pre-course Welcome Chat on January 11th at 6:00 PM in this Facebook group to get everyone acquainted.

Happy New Year!

Jennifer
